چکیده

This paper presents a genetic algorithm approach to the location of a single input and output station for each department within a facility design such that material handling costs are minimized. This problem is an NP-hard combinatorial problem. A genetic algorithm (GA) is shown to be an effective and efficient optimization method when compared to integer programming and to a greedy constructive heuristic on several test problems of varying size.

Designof Production Facilities Using Evolutionary Computing

This chapter discusses the use of genetic algorithms for the design of industrial facilities. Block design of the location of departments or work centers is integrated with the detailed design of aisle structure, material handling system, machine placement and input/output locations. Another aspect is to improve the design optimization objective function by matching the choice of owpath distanc...

Solving a bi-objective location routing problem by a NSGA-II combined with clustering approach: application in waste collection problem

It is observed that the separated design of location for depots and routing for servicing customers often reach a suboptimal solution. So, solving location and routing problem simultaneously could achieve better results. In this paper, waste collection problem is considered with regard to economic and societal objective functions. A non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is used to l...

A Hybrid Solution Approach Based on Benders Decomposition and Meta-Heuristics to Solve Supply Chain Network Design Problem

Supply Chain Network Design (SCND) is a strategic supply chain management problem that determines its configuration. This mainly focuses on the facilities location, capacity sizing, technology selection, supplier selection, transportation, allocation of production and distribution facilities to the market, and so on. Although the optimal solution of the SCND problem leads to a significant reduc...
